Halloween

It was a Creepy and stormy ⛈  night. The Lion 🦁 was roaring outside George’s room as he watched The Joker movie  🎥  and ate Enchiladas. Suddenly, the lights 💡went out! George was nervous as he got up from the couch 🛋 to see what had happened. Then, there was a Huge knock ✊🏽 on the window 🪟! George quickly opened the door 🚪. he walked with relief; it was just his friend Marie . But as George threw open the door; he ran in terror. Marie was covered in slime, and her blouse 👚  was all ripped to shreds. “Marie”… George stammered , “Why is your face all purple?” MREHHGGRRNG!!” she moaned in reply, and began running 🏃🏾‍♀️ into the house very Seriously. “Zombie!” cried George and he tiptoed down the hall like a mad Bird. he grabbed a bat for protection and turned to face the zombie at the door 🚪. But to his anger . the zombie 🧟 was laughing ! Then he saw 13 other friends huddled outside laughing selfishly sad George slammed the door 🚪. It was all a joke! After his Heart ❤️ stopped 🛑beating so fast, he began to scream. What a crazy Night!

Halloween Poem

by Michael

On the night of Halloween

Ghost and Goblins can be seen

Witches and one-eyed monsters too

All come out to see you

Don't be afraid

It's just a merry parade

The spooky skeleton
and friend on the pumpkin wall
Say hello to the Halloween show
The black cauldron filled with spooky air

David O's Ground Beef Tacos

Today we're sharing David O's Ground Beef Taco Recipe.  This simple recipe works whether you like to use hard taco shells or soft taco tortillas, either flour or corn.

Easy Ground Beef Taco Meat Mixture

1 lb. Ground Beef

1 Medium Onion, chopped

1 Tbs Oil

4 Tbs Taco Seasoning

1.  Heat up a skillet with oil and chopped Onions.

2.  When onions start to brown, add in ground beef and break up with a spatula.

3.  Add the seasoning mix and stir into ground beef and onions until completely coated and thoroughly cooked.

Taco Shells/Tortillas

You can buy hard taco shells already formed into a "U" shape, or you can buy soft taco tortillas.  Soft tortillas can be warmed by steaming or fried in a skillet with a little bit of oil.

Taco Toppings

After you scoop your meat mixture into your taco shell or tortilla, you will want to add toppings.  These are limited only by your taste and imagination.  The most common toppings include shredded lettuce, shredded cheese and diced tomatoes.  However, some people like to add one or more of the following: sliced olives, sliced jalepeños, bell peppers, avocado, more onions, salsa or pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole, chopped cilantro or lime or lemon juice.

Pick your favorite toppings, add your favorite taco sauce--mild to fiery hot--and enjoy!

2-3 Tbs Sweet Chili Sauce

1-1/2 Tbs Low Salt Soy Sauce

2-3 Tbs Water

5.  Mix ingredients thoroughly together in a small bowl and pour approximately half of the Teriyaki sauce into the skillet with the hot dog pieces.  Stir to coat well.

Erica's Favorite - Fettuccine Alfredo

To kick off our Spring of sharing favorite recipes, we start with a classic: Fettuccine Alfredo.

We have chosen a simple recipe with only six (6) ingredients.

Ingredients:

4 oz. of fettuccine noodles

1+ tsp salt

2 Tbs unsalted butter

2 Tbs heavy cream

1/4 cup Parmesan cheese (grated)

1 tsp chopped parsley

Directions:

1.  Bring a large pot of water to boil.  Toss in the salt.  Add noodles and cook according to package directions.

2.  While the pasta is boiling, melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat, but be careful not to burn it.  This should take only a minute or two.

3.  Add the cream and increase the heat to medium.  Whisk/stir the butter and cream until it is well-combined.

4.  Add the grated cheese  and whisk/stir it in completely until it is melted.  Continue to cook and stir the sauce until it thickens.

5.  Reduce the heat under the skillet.  Using tongs, transfer the cooked noodles from the pot into the Alfredo sauce in the skillet.  Stir together until all the pasta is completely coated with the sauce.

6.  Serve the pasta onto plates, garnish with the chopped parsley and eat while it's hot and fresh.

Enjoy!

The Traveling Virus, by the Life Skills Blogging Class

It is a cold and rainy and windy day. Everybody is inside but a virus. You can’t see it. It lives under the skin. This virus is not what you want under your skin. It can make you very, very sick.

There is a stray German Shepherd dog, Scooby, that has the virus. The dog had run away from his old home which was in Texas because his family had died from the virus.

Scooby ran to the airport in Texas. At the airport he was running all over causing trouble and causing stress to the people. The dog was running so fast he got tired. The flight attendants brought Scooby onto the plane. He found a quiet place to rest. The airplane flew to Sacramento.

Scooby left the airport scared. He met up with another dog. This dog was a girl dog named Rosey, a Labrador. Rosey also has the virus.

Rosey had an owner who was an old man who got sick, and he just kept getting sicker. The old man got paralyzed, and other people had to help him. They had to help him eat.  He eventually died in a hospital from the virus. Rosey started wandering all around until she eventually met up with Scooby.

The two dogs traveled around and wandered into a carnival. The dogs started to smell some hot dogs and popcorn and cotton candy and cheese burgers. So the dogs started begging for some of the food. One of the vendors saw the dogs and was scared because he didn’t know the dogs. He watched the dogs go from vendor to vendor begging for food. He also noticed the dogs were very thin. So he decided to give them some food. The dogs ate up all the food he gave them.

A family who was at the carnival saw the dogs and took them home.  The vendor who gave the dogs food wrote a note to the family and gave them the note before the family took the dogs home. The note said how to take care of the dogs. It said read the labels carefully for any medicine given to the dogs. Please get the dogs vaccinated. Take the dogs' temperature--it should not be over 101. Check the nose which should be wet. Check the gums by lifting up the lips. They should be pink. When you walk the dogs please clean up after them.

The new family built dog houses for the dogs. The dogs had a nice yard to run around in. They took the dogs in to the vet to make sure they were healthy. At the vet they checked the dogs to see if they had the virus.  They had to wait for the test to come back.  The vet found collars on each of the dogs with name tags. The tags had the dogs' names on them. One was Scooby, and the other was Rosey.

Once they got to their new home, the dogs started getting sick. They started whimpering and howling. They were shivering, and they had a temperature of 105.

The family took the dogs to the vet hospital. There was no cure for them.  So they put masks on the dogs’ faces. The dogs couldn’t breathe with their masks on, so they put muzzles on the dogs instead. They were going to put the dogs down, but there was a veterinarian who was also a scientist. He was working on a cure for the virus. He developed some medication that he experimented on with the dogs. The medication started to kill the virus, and the dogs got better.

The next day the dogs' new family started getting sick. They started throwing up.  They had caught the virus. They also took the medication that was for the dogs,  but it did not work for them. They took their temperatures. They all had high temperatures.  Their temperatures were 104. So they decided to go to the hospital. They were admitted to the ICU. The hospital gave them a shot and put them on IV medicine. They were put on a liquid diet. But they continued to get sicker.

In the meantime, the vendors from the carnival also were getting sick. One of the vendors was also a doctor. She was the sister of the veterinarian scientist. She, too, was working on a cure for the virus with her brother, but she was working on it for people. She was working on the medicine in a special area at the carnival. The vendors had to go to the doctor’s special area to get the medicine.

The doctor found some herbs, and she was experimenting with them. She ground the herbs up. She mixed them with some food. She then baked it all together, and then she gave the vendors some of the food. The vendors that were sick started to get better, but there was a side effect. The side effect was that they started getting very tired. She also found a medicine to help with the tiredness.

The doctor made brownies with the herbs cooked in it. She also had the herbs pounded down to a powder that she could pass out. And she made a vaccine to help keep the vendors awake.  The vendors now had another type of medicine, and it did kill the virus.

The vendor doctor took her medicine to the hospital to give to the dogs' family.  The family started to get better after they took the medicine.  They all got well and went back home, where Scooby and Rosey were so happy to see them!
